Cardio and Coffee

As the climate heats up, the layers of clothing slowly get peeled off... and so does the hibernation fluff! No, I am not really overweight by any means, but I do still have my winter layer of chubbiness that I am currently working on toning up.

Let's be real though, I go to university full time and work full time. Outside of physically being present at both places, I have to do my school work, eat, and sleep.

That doesn't really leave all too much room for anything extracurricular, much less working out.

But where there's a will, there's a way! (Don't mind the cliché) and that way is losing some sleep...

My saving grace: coffee a.k.a. liquid gold.

What kind of liquid gold do you drink when you're trying to get into better shape? That's the real question.

I'm keeping it simple without sacrificing taste. I can't handle black coffee as of right now, but I really don't want a super sugary/fatty coffee that is really just empty calories.

To keep the engine moving I am rolling with whatever dark roast I have in my house (currently the single origin Sulawesi from Starbucks) with just a tad bit of creamer (International Delight Cold Stone Creamery Sweet Cream). I usually put A LOT of creamer in my coffee so I have cut that habit down quite a bit.

Easily the most crucial aspect to keeping my anxiety at bay is time management. Time management reigns supreme over everything. I'm fond of making lists and keeping a planner. Nothing on my phone, all on paper, otherwise it doesn't stick for me.

I prioritize things by due date and then by how difficult/time consuming each task/assignment is. From there I execute and get it done. I trap myself in a procrastination hole far too often even with my super snazzy list.

Now this is all a little nerve racking for my anxiety as the semester nears the end. Why? because the end of the semester ultimately means the work load starts getting out of hand. Fortunately enough, working out is supposed to soothe these with anxiety. A great article on this can be found on the ADAA's (Anxiety and Depression Association of America) website.

To break it all down...

  • Working out does two things: shed the winter coat and soothe anxiety,
  • Coffee helps combat drowsiness from the lack of sleep,
  • And time management is key with such a hectic schedule.

Anxiety really can't be avoided, but we can always find ways to live with it.
